iPhone web app developed with MODx and jQTouch
Full jQtouch and MODx Tutorial is now live!
You know how you know you should do something, you know it shouldn't be all that hard, but you put it off anyway? That's what recently happened, and this morning I bit the bullet and just ddi it, and it wasn't that bad.
Check out the Mobile Firestorm Networking site, be sure to use Safari, Google Chrome (webkit) or an iPhone or other webkit mobile browser.
Some back story
We developed the Firestorm Business Networking site on MODx this summer, a significant upgrade from iWeb. This being the case we already had the data abstracted from any markup structure, it made building the jQTouch compatible format very easy.
I took a look at jQTouch months ago, and let me tell you, it's pretty easy to develop simple web applications quickly on this jQuery based framework. It works best with Webkit based browsers so iPhone, Android and Palm Pre will be the target market, but lets face it, most mobile web users are one of these devices. Sorry Windows Mobile, no soup for you!
Development Process
One thing that MODx is really good at, is lists, more specifically Ditto is great at lists. Anything list based can be built from pages or nodes for you drupal devs.
When I looked at the source of the jQtouch preview you see it's really just one giant page with divs with IDs and you slide from panel to panel by linking to #anchors. We ended up using the for ID of divs and the corresponding links because it had no spaces, unlike or .
Sorry to disappoint but I don't have time to go into full detail now, look for a full tutorial soon.
Conclusion
Bottom line, it's really fun and rewarding to do something new and mash up technologies. So go on and dig into this yourself. Feel free to email me any questions.
