What can Multi-Level Marketing teach us about marketing your website?

Now, not that I should know, but going around the block a few times, I’ve learned most MLMs work off of two principals.

Depth

Recruiting people who will recruit other people and thus make your thousands of dollars every month ... right? Well not quite, but you get the idea.

In terms of marketing your website this would be building good link relationships with other partner websites, because their visitors may potentially come to you and bring you business. This is where the “Multi” in Multi-Level Marketing comes in.

Width

MLMers use the term width to describe people directly under them, to be diamond level you need both I suppose. 

Bringing it back to your website, I’d call this building content, blogging, building the direct first points of contact with your customer, and not relying on someone else. Recently we’ve helped a few companies build the width of their website and we’re seeing traffic grow 10 - 20% every month just from expanding their reach.

Every new page you create should have a unique topic and will potentially rank well in Search Engines, you might not get hundreds of visitors from these pages, but if you get 2, 5 or 10 uniques a month from each page, and you add 2 to 5 new pages a month you can see that quickly you’ll become a traffic power house.
